Outlook Technologies Boosts Web Advertising Revenue by Including Complete Ad Server in Its Content Management System

Time Warner’s NY1 News Site First in Line to Benefit

New York, NY – July 13, 2000 – Outlook Technologies, Inc. has boosted advertising revenue opportunities for Web sites and has raised the bar significantly on content management systems by including a complete ad server in its CMS Media. Web sites can maximize revenue by selling and managing all of their Web advertising in-house. Businesses no longer need to rely on third party ad solutions, or “middlemen,” that normally take a significant share of this revenue stream. This supports a revenue model that justifies a strong Web presence enabling sites to significantly contribute to profits.

Outlook’s Ad Server component allows businesses to manage their Web sales and advertising campaigns from start to finish. Time Warner Cable’s 24-hour News Channel “NY1 News,” one of the most-watched cable channels in New York City, is the first Web site to use Outlook’s Ad Server. NY1 now builds, manages, schedules, targets, serves, tracks and reports in detail on their advertising. From campaigns, impressions and click-throughs to price, gross and net revenue, Outlook’s Ad Server offers the complete package. By bringing all the advertising in house, NY1 generates more revenue without relying on a third party or giving away any portion of the revenue stream. The Ad Server also allows them to incorporate third party advertising codes. Outlook completely integrates the Ad Server with their Web-based CMS Media that manages NY1’s Web site content, including its broadband media.

Outlook also has incorporated support for Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) devices. With the growth of wireless devices, a PDA-supported site is essential for NY1. NY1 allows its users to access NY1 News on their PC-syncable or wireless-enabled Palm or Windows CE devices. NY1 users get the ten Top Stories, the ten top Living stories, and the lottery numbers. NY1 now offers a quick-loading text-only version of the Web site in a browser-accessible directory for those users with slow dial-up connections or text-only browsers.

The desirability of greater user participation also led Outlook to develop improved Web site polls that give users a choice to view the results without voting. Votes are tabulated in the database and displayed as a bar graph with percentages, the number of votes for each answer and the total number of votes. NY1 can create a poll question with a brief description or story, and enter as many answers as they wish. Also, NY1 dynamically controls the response options based on whether a poll should ask users to choose a single answer or multiple answers.

Additionally, NY1 has implemented a live audio stream and a live image update. The live audio stream allows users to hear NY1 News live via Real Audio. The live image update is an exclusive feature that uses the Real Player to deliver live NY1 audio with pictures updated every ten seconds.

"Outlook took a look at the things we wanted to do for our users and came up with a series of simple yet powerful features," said Marc Nathanson, NY1's Executive Producer of New Media. "The PDA offerings allow us to extend the NY1 brand to portable devices, while the instant polls allow our users to provide immediate feedback to our stories. Most importantly, the Ad Server gives us start-to-finish control over the ad sales and serving process."

“The addition of a fully functional Ad Server to Outlook Technologies CMS/Media Product provides the business model that content publishers have needed.
